City SC | Coaches-in-Training

The City SC Temecula Coaches-in-Training Program is a comprehensive soccer coach apprentice and internship program that serves as an introduction to the coaching profession for City SC youth players.

This unique program will give players the overview, the tools, the training, the confidence, and finally – real life opportunities to coach kids at our Little Cityzens level, rec level or club level as an apprentice assistant coach.

Offered to boys and girls 2004 to 2007.

Dates

  • July 14 through August 18 for classroom and on-field stages
  • mentorship through club coaches and Little Cityzen session participation will be scheduled after July 16.

The program is managed by Aaron Kiely and Terry Olsen.

Curriculum-Stage 1

Classroom-1 (90 minutes)

Curriculum-Stage 2

One-Day Field Session (90 minutes)

Candidates work in groups of three or four and run a training session they have designed prior to the meeting. Each group will have 20 minutes to run a modified session based on the U.S. Soccer Play-Practice-Play model.

 

Curriculum-Stage 3

Practical On-Field Experience

  • Each candidate will be given a club coaching mentor for at least two weeks and will be asked to participate in at least two competitive team training sessions as an assistant coach. The candidate will be given opportunities to run parts of training sessions under the supervision of the mentor coach.

AND/OR

  • Candidates will be asked to serve as a volunteer assistant coach for a Little Cityzens 6-week session.

 

Graduation

After the completion of the program, each candidate will receive a Certificate of Completion and earn the title of City SC Apprentice Coach.

 

Opportunities

Candidates may be offered opportunities to be part-time assistant coaches under professional City SC coaches.

Candidates may be offered opportunities to assist during City SC camps and clinics for compensation.

Candidates may be offered an opportunity to coach 6-week Little Cityzens sessions for compensation after completing a 6-week Little Cityzens session as a volunteer assistant.

Candidates may be offered opportunities to assist our Directors in running coaching education clinics for our rec coaches in Menifee and Lake Elsinore.

This program qualifies for Community Service hours.
