Juggling Club

The City SC Juggling Club is designed to encourage and challenge our players to spend more of their free time juggling. Juggling is a foundation skill in soccer that improves a player’s:

  • first touch and eye/foot coordination
  • coordination, balance, reaction, and speed
  • confidence and comfort with the ball

All good jugglers are not necessarily good soccer players, but all good soccer players are good jugglers. Juggling helps players to be more confident and comfortable with the ball in possession. Work on all surfaces of your body until you are comfortable using any body part to control the ball.  Your touches will increase as you practice.  You can juggle any time you want, it just takes you, a ball and a little space.  Challenge yourself and keep track of your personal best. Practice each day for a minimum of 15 minutes to improve your juggling scores.

RULES

The rules are simple.

  • The juggle count returns to zero if the ball hits the ground.
  • Feet, thighs, head, and shoulders all count as juggles but we strongly encourage using both feet as much as possible.
  • The soccer ball must be the same size as used in games by the player and correctly inflated.
  • Players born 2009 and younger may start the juggling with their hands. Players born 2008 and older should start with the ball on the ground. 

VERIFICATION

Scores for 2008 to 2002 must be verified by a City SC coach (in-person or unedited video). Coaches are generally available before or after practices, or during team camps to evaluate players. Please download the Juggling Verification Form, and have the coach sign it. Younger players may have a parent sign the verification form and present it to the coach. We trust you.

JUGGLING TIPS:

Try softer touches on the ball, keeping the ball low, using both feet and making contact on the flat of the foot but with toes raised higher than the ankle to create a spin and movement on the ball that always brings it back towards you. Please ask your coach to demonstrate proper technique.
